On 31 March I shall be retiring from Clifford Towers and would like to take this opportunity of saying thank you to all of you who have supported me over the years.
I first went into practice in Coventry in 1966, nearly 39 years ago and during that time the accountancy profession has changed dramatically. I have been very fortunate in having some excellent clients, many of whom have been with me for a very long time. I have acted for several second generations and for one client I even deal with the third generation so I suppose I must have done something right.
I opened the Rugby Office 23 years ago and have had tremendous support from all the staff here at Rugby. This was particularly appreciated during the year in which I was President of the Birmingham and West Midlands Society of Chartered Accountants. During that year I was away from the office most weeks and I would not have been able to take the position if my two managers, Carolyn Cheesman and Gill Jackson had not been prepared to take over much of the responsibility.
I know that I am leaving the Rugby Office in good hands. My place as head of the firm in Rugby will be taken by Simon Towers who has worked with me here for the last few years. I know Simon will make sure that the firm will continue to offer clients an excellent service just as I have tried to do. He will, of course, continue to be supported by Carolyn and Gill and the other staff members.
I will obviously miss my involvement with clients, something I have enjoyed immensely over the years. I have made many friends and I have received several letters which have made me feel that the effort has been worthwhile.
Like all businesses there have been some good times and some bad times but I look back over my time in accountancy with pleasure and some pride.
So to all those I have worked with over the years again many thanks and all the very best for the future.
